Imran (عمران) in Islam is presented as the father of Moses, Aaron, and "Maryam" (Mary), who gave birth to Jesus. Since Jesus and Moses would have lived some 1,000 years apart, Islamic scholars have traditionally argued that this actually refers to two separate men named Imran (the one being the father of Moses and Aaron, and the other being the father of Maryam). The Qur'an itself makes no such distinction and strongly suggests that they were the same man. Critics maintain that this would be understandable as an error, as it reflects a misconception and conflation that was and perhaps still is common among the laity. | Imran (عمران) in Islam is presented as the father of Moses, Aaron, and "Maryam" (Mary), who gave birth to Jesus.
