The Jewish tribe of the Banu Qurayza were one of the three Jewish tribes, along with the Banu Nadir and the Banu Qaynuwqa, mentioned by the [[sira]] tradition as being present in and around Medina at the time of the arrival of the prophet. They refused to convert to Islam, and eventually allied with the pagan Meccans against Muhammad and the Muslims, despite an earlier treaty with Muhammad. For this betrayal, all of the adult men of the tribe were beheaded and the women and children sold into slavery. For more info, see [[The Genocide of Banu Qurayza]].
