Al-Suyuti was born in Cairo in 1445 and died there in 1505. His writings span many topics. Many of Suyuti's most well-known works of lasting impact were compilations or textbooks, including ''Tarikh al-Khulafa'' (History of the Caliphs) and ''al-Itqan fi Ulum al-Qur'an'' (''The Perfect Guide to the Science of the Qur'an''). However, what is perhaps his most famous work, the brief exegesis ''Tafsir al-Jalalayn'', was not a work of his own conception. The ''Tafsir'' has been been started by Jalal al-Din al-Mahalli (d. 1460) and was only completed by al-Suyuti''.<ref name=":02" />''
