"corruption in the land"

I am new to WikiIslam so don't have anything to contribute right now, other than to ask what the meaning is of, "corruption in the land" and hopefully see it included in your list of terms. It is repeated numerous times in the literature that I have been reading, and I think I know what it means, but would like to be sure. I think it means talking against Islam and the prophet.
