This article focuses on the changing relation Muhammad had with the ''People of the Book''. In the early parts of the Qur'an (Meccan) Muhammad tried to portray himself as a prophet in the Jewish / Christian tradition. When that does not suit him anymore he starts to vilify them. And some of the "eternal pages" had to be re-written. A clear contradiction occurs in chapter 5 where in verse 69 they have nothing to fear, and in verses 51-59 they are vilified.

A clear contradiction occurs in chapter 5 where in verse 69 they have nothing to fear, and in verses 51-59 they are vilified. The most positive attitude towards the ''People of the Book'' is 10:94 where Muhammad tries to make it look like Jews and Christians recognize him as a prophet. Also 13:36 points in this direction.
