La tribu a refusé de se convertir à l’islam et s’est finalement alliée avec les Mecquois païens contre Muhammad et les musulmans, malgré un serment antérieur avec Muhammad de ne pas attaquer les musulmans. Pour cette trahison, sur l’ordre d’Allah au moyen de ses anges, tous les hommes adultes de la tribu ont été décapités et les femmes et les enfants vendus en esclavage.
